This is a blog post about Steam. It will have some information about the new features of Steam Workshop. Steam is a digital distribution platform for video games. It's something like Netflix, but for games instead of movies! You can buy or rent video games, download demos or trailers, get automatic updates on your PC games, and more! They are currently running an awesome deal on Resident Evil 4 HD, where you can get all four main campaigns with improved graphics and widescreen support at the low price of $4. 99! Steam came out with Steam Workshop, where you can create mods for your games. To do this they provided an open set of tools to developers. This means that modders no longer need to be game developers to make game modifications! You can now start working on that zombie survival game you've always wanted to play! You may also see that some games have the option of playing with bots, which is something you can do using my plugin for Source Engine games. These bots are normal players like you and me, but our software allows them to act more reasonable than they would otherwise. This is one way you can use Steam Workshop, by making a bot profile for your friends or clanmates. The main idea of Steam Workshop is that you can share your stuff with the community. If you are making an awesome mod for Left 4 Dead 2, you can upload it to Steam Workshop, so other people can download it. This way, if your mod is good, you'll start getting lots of downloads and maybe even some donations! You may have noticed that some games now support mods that are user-created. You can even use my plugin to create a gun that throws explosive teddy bears at zombies! These games are shipped with a tool called "Source SDK Base", which provides all the tools you will need to make your mod. The ones I'm talking about are Euro Truck Simulator 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Portal 2. To use this plugin for Source Engine games, first go into the game options menu. There should be a "workshop" tab that will let you access your profile, save games etc… Then, go to "Steam Workshop", where you will find all the mods you have created. You will need to login first to save your mods! You can choose "UPLOAD TO STEAM" to save them there. Or you can "UPLOAD TO MANUAL", where you will need to enter all the details of your mod. A set of instructions, along with some basic info on how to use the source engine workshop tools, are provided on this site. Now that you have uploaded your mod, other people can download it! Just go to "Search Mods" and you should see it under "Active" on the top left. You can simply click on it and search for it if you don't find it!
